Travel off the Beaten Path: Las Vegas

Las Vegas can be a super hot mess express for a highly sensitive person like myself. Yes, you read that right, I am highly sensitive. Too much visual stimulation can make me straight up nauseated. So when is comes to Vegas, where everything is over the top, I did my best to seek out the fun, the colorful and the quirky, well off the beaten path. If you know where to look, Vegas can be a hotspot for Americana and vintage kitsch, which is of course right up my alley…. Or should I say Alli? See what I did there?

First of all you have to hit the Welcome to Vegas sign. We didn’t do it on this trip but we have in the past, there is a parking lot there and normally a small wait line to snap a pic, but its the epitome of Vegas Kitsch and a must-see especially if it is your first trip to Vegas.

Not too far from the Vegas strip, you can find the Seven Magic Mountains art installation. In my opinion, it is way too cool to be missed. But I like that kind of colorful, crazy, fun photo-op kind of stuff! My husband was a super good sport and took me here for sunrise, and yes, it was WAY worth the alarm going off at 4:30 a.m. There was only one other couple, so we were able to get some amazing shots of the rocks without any people in the pics. Another benefit of going this early, other than the beautiful sunrise viewing, is the fact that it is in the middle of the dessert, if you go early, you will not be subjected to the intense face-melting heat!

Speaking of heat, you have to endure the weather in order to experience the Neon Boneyard, but it is well worth it. The museum is entirely outside in the dessert heat. My suggestion is to take a loop through the exhibit, come into the gift shop to cool down, then go back and circle the exhibit again going in the opposite direction. We went during the day, some of the neon signs have been restored and are lit up during the day, but you can go back at night to see most of the signs in all the shining glory. I have yet to see it at night but I am sure it is brilliant, and would defiantly go back for the night tour on our next visit.

As said in the classic movie "The Hangover".... let'g go back to Las Vegas next weekend!
