Travel with Tieks: To Disney and Beyond!

Updated: Jul 13, 2018

I’m sure you have all seen the beautiful array of colorful flats with the turquoise sole on Pinterest. At least that’s where I saw my first pair of Tieks. It must have been a good ad because sure enough, I took the click bait. $175 for ballet flats? “Oh hell no!” was this thrifty queen’s first thought. But I kept thinking about these flats that proclaimed to be magical: no blisters, comfy soles, packable. Could they possibly be as good as they claimed to be?

I decided to take the plunge after we booked our first trip to Dapper Day at Disneyland. For those of you who don’t know, Dapper Day is an outing at Disneyland in which everyone attending wears their best vintage and vintage-inspired attire, for a full day at Disneyland. If you ever get a chance to attend, it is absolutely AMAZING.

Anyways, I planned to wear a Minnie Mouse inspired outfit: yellow pumps, blue polka-dot dress, and a red pill-box hat topped with a white daisy. I knew I would not last all day at Disneyland in my yellow pumps so I thought I would try out the Tieks, as they would still look cute with my outfit. I mulled over this decision for days while the yellow Tieks sat in my online shopping cart. One thing I did—and I would suggest to anyone thinking about adding Tieks to your own shoe collection—I decided on a color (yellow) and then I went through my closet to see if I had enough outfits that would work with the bright yellow Tieks to make it worth my splurge. Turns out, I have a lot of yellow, neutrals and mixed floral prints that look great with a pop of yellow at my feet.

So, I took the leap and ordered my first pair of Tieks. They arrived within days (though this may be because they ship from CA and I am also located in CA). The package was beautiful. The box is the perfect shade of Pyrex-blue, topped with the sweetest flower. They even included a hand-written note on a card that is frame-worthy. But enough about all the goodies. How did the shoes fit and, most importantly, how did they hold up after a full day at Disneyland?

They are just as magical as they claim to be! No blisters. My feet were not tired at the end of the day, which is quite impressive considering we clocked close to 10 miles of walking at Disney. They are easy to pack as a back-up pair when you are ready to change out of heels. The leather is vibrant and beautiful. The fit ran true to size. For me, even if I only wore them once for my Minnie Mouse outfit at Dapper Day, they were worth every last penny.

But I did wear them again. And again. And again! I wore them with business slacks in the office, I wore them with jeans on the weekends, I wore them with my quirky Lularoe leggings. And I continue to wear them still.

I loved my yellow pair so much, that when it came time to let my hubby know what my Christmas wishes were, Tieks were at the top of my list. He came through and decided to spoil me with the Chestnut brown pair.

We had 2 international weddings to attend this year and I knew the Chestnut flats would be perfect for changing out of my fancy shoes when it came time to boogie down. Not only are they perfect for my wedding flats, but also perfect for travel. I wore my Chestnut Tieks all over Mexico on dirt roads, to markets, and even while mounting a horse. I also wore my Tieks all over Ireland through cobblestone streets, castle stairs, pubs and even the Guiness factory.

And after all this romping around, when it came time to clean my Tieks, I used my brother-in-law's steam cleaner (the kind he uses to detail car interiors.) They looked as good as new!

All in all, I love my Tieks. I think they are worth the splurge. I continue to be happy with my last purchases and will continue to save my pennies to put toward my next pair of perfect Tieks.
